One Small Step
One small step for rezoning, one giant leap of faith!
Tonight I was a nervous wreck. What if they said, “No?” What if everything we have been working toward fails before it gets started? Tonight was but a small step toward renovating our new church building with the fate in the hands of a city planning committee.
Since we took over the building in August, we couldn’t start on renovating the old bowling alley and start making it our new home. Why? Zoning issues. Yes, we have a building that sits in a C5 zone and can’t be used for a church until it is re-zoned to a C3. I won’t bore you with the details, let’s just say it's a process to get it changed for time’s sake. Time can be a killer. It has been the enemy and downfall of many a good man/woman. How many times have you had too much time on your hands and ended up on the wrong end of a decision? How many times have you let too much time play tricks on you?
Well, as it turns out, time is only what we make of it. Is it put to good use? Is it used to do good, or is it used to do other things like: worry, stress, complain, and over think yourself into a sickness? This morning I woke up thankful. Thankful at the chance to have another day to have maximum impact for His kingdom. I may have been nervous, but I knew our church would be fine without the approval of a city committee. We have been meeting every week without fail. We have been worshiping God together every Saturday without fail. We have been helping others in our community without fail. Whether or not we got approval from a city committee would not matter. We would continue to work cheerfully and without fail as if we were working directly for God (Colossians 3:23). We have had faith from day one that God would provide. So far, he hasn’t let us down. His word lets us know that he is a God that provides and we have been trusting in a God that loves us.
However, a simple, “Yes,” from the city could increase our church’s capacity to do more good in our community and have even more kingdom impact. Well…today was a giant step in the right direction. They said, “Yes,” and we are one small step closer to moving into our church!
God is good. He is faithful. He is a God that provides.
